Apple releases first trailer for ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’

The series will debut November 17 exclusively on Apple TV+.

Following last month’s release of some tantalizing teaser images, Apple has released the first trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The 10-episode series, which debuts on November 17, will take place in the same world as Legendary’s Godzilla/Monsterverse films.

Let’s check the trailer one more time and break things down a bit.

Right off the bat, we discover that John Goodman’s William Randa (who we last saw in Kong: Skull Island) will play a critical role. He may only make a cameo appearance, but Randa’s attempts to fix Monarch‘s mistakes will reverberate throughout the narrative.

We also see him running from a giant spider — or at least edited to appear he’s fleeing for his life from the aforementioned monster.

From there, we’re treated to images of Kurt and Wyatt Rusell’s character Lee Shaw as he attempts to uncover (and possibly expose) the organization’s history. We also get some all-too-brief glimpses of other kaiju along with a glorious shot of Godzilla roaring in anger/triumph.

As someone who loved Skull Island and the 2014 Godzilla, but has not enjoyed the subsequent entires, this looks exactly like what we were hoping for. The effects also look fantastic — for a movie or streaming series.

The first two episodes of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will debut on Friday, November 17 on Apple TV+ with the following episodes releasing weekly.

Read below for the official series synopsis along with some new teaser images:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
