The biggest new video games releasing the week of 9/25/23

Check out what’s new in the world of video games this week.

The Summer of Gaming has come to an end, but no matter! Fall is always a wonderful time for new video games, and this season sees potential Game of the Year contenders come out week after week. Sandwiched between them are plenty of indie games to ensure it’ll be impossible for you to not find an exciting new release to play and fall in love with.

Let’s check out what video games are hitting storefronts this week.

Cocoon (9/29)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

Cocoon is a wildly inventive and intricate puzzle-solving adventure. From Jeppe Carlsen, the lead gameplay designer of Limbo and InsideCocoon features worlds within worlds that you’ll leap through to solve puzzles and discover a cosmic mystery. Each world has a different biome, but they all include hidden pathways, alien machinery, and even boss fights, each with a unique mechanic.

El Paso, Elsewhere (9/26)

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S

As if Texas couldn’t get any more terrifying, El Paso, Elsewhere is set in an El Paso motel full of monsters and supernatural beings. With retro graphics and old school third-person gameplay, El Paso, Elsewhere harkens back to the classic shooters of yesteryear. It features an original hip-hop soundtrack, a fully-voiced campaign, and all the monsters you’d ever want to blast in the face.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (9/26)

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Phantom Liberty fully completes Cyberpunk 2077‘s redemption arc this week. After being released as a, we’ll say, hot mess back in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 is now a fully respectable game with the 2.0 update. Released separately (and for free) from the expansion, the 2.0 update overhauls and modifies core systems of the game, like skill trees and combat AI, to address initial problems with the base game. The Phantom Liberty expansion drops players in an espionage thriller where they are tasked with saving the NUSA president. It’ll include a new area to explore, weapons, vehicles, and quests.

Also worth checking out: Mineko’s Night Market, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – Conqueror of Jiangdong, Pizza Possum, and Faerie Afterlight.
