“Doing research for this graphic novel opened my eyes to the reality of human trafficking,” Mane said. “Then, after talking with people across the country and across the world—hearing their stories, putting faces and names to the tragedies—I realized I HAD to do something. Something more. This book is one way to start the conversation.”
So what’s The Last Spartan about?
In the gritty underground world of Downtown Atlanta, an unexpected vigilante operates outside the bounds of government bureaucracy.
Frank Kane, the last known survivor of The Last Spartans MC, walks a perilous path guided by ancient Spartan maxims, but his journey takes an otherworldly turn as visions and omens from the gods beckon him to break his parole and risk his freedom to rescue a kidnapped child from the clutches of Atlanta’s human trafficking underworld. When determined decoy agent Amanda Harper crosses his path, fed up with government bureaucracy and on a mission to “save them all,” they both find an unlikely ally in a monumental showdown against an international cartel.
“I’ve been editing comics for over 25 years, and my favorite part of that has been the community, the people I have had the pleasure of working with,” added book editor Renae Geerlings. “So to have some of those artists come back after all this time and do me the personal favor of helping me to see my first personal project come to fruition was REALLY special. We’ve been developing this one for a long time and watching it evolve and take form with the help of some dear friends is a new highlight in my career.”
