NYCC 2023: Ewan McGregor stresses the importance of the SAG strike

‘It’s very important that we are taking this action because there are so many things that have to be addressed that have been left unaddressed for too long.’

The ongoing SAG strike prevented Ewan McGregor from discussing his film career at Thursday’s New York Comic Con “Ewan McGregor Spotlight” event, but that didn’t stop him from taking a moment to comment on the strike’s importance.

“It’s very important that we are taking this action because there are so many things that have to be addressed that have been left unaddressed for too long,” he told the moderator.

“And it’s a shame that it’s taking the studios this length of time to come to some sort of resolution with us, but as a result, I’m 100 percent behind the strike and involved with my union.”

“This is the first thing like this I’ve done, but I really wanted to take part,” McGregor continued. “And it’s difficult for us to be up here and not be able to talk about our actual films. I’m sure you’d like to hear about them, so I apologize for that, but that’s just the way we have to do it, I suppose.”

He also shared a bit about what his life has been like since the strike. ”I’m happy to be here. My strike life is very domestic. You know, the children need to get to school.”

“But it was important to come and see you all, meet you all,” McGregor said.
