Welcome back to another edition of Fantastic Five, where we celebrate the very best comics of the week! This week, DC Comics takes the two top spots, each by a Green hero. Let’s take a look at the books:
#5: Universal Monsters: Dracula #1
Both faithful to the Bram Stoker original, and capable of mining new psychic terrors, this adaptation will consume you from page one. It’s only the first issue, and I’m already willing to pledge my undying allegiance to these dark masters.

#4: Radiant Black #26
Radiant Black #26 continues to push the boundaries of a comic book event, and the comic book medium, with its bold new approach to storytelling. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: this is a book worthy of being on your pull list.

#3: Captain Marvel #1
Captain Marvel #1 is a great start, with a fast pace and good character work that’s efficient. Your interest will pique thanks to new characters and a fun body-swapping plot that smartly connects to the upcoming The Marvels movie.

#2: Green Arrow #5
Another knockout entry in Williamson and Izaakse’s modern classic starring the Emerald Archer. It’s nice to see that in a DC landscape where continuity can often be played very fast and loose, with inconsistencies in events and characterization more likely to be met with a half-hearted shrug and an apathetic disinterest, we still get books like this, who not only give a damn, they reward you for giving a damn.
#1: Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #1
To describe this issue in one word is to describe potential. If this book can continue on this trajectory, it could easily become a seminal work that redefines a classic hero for the modern age — though it’s set in a not-so-modern time. Alan is a brilliant character, and it’s great to see him get some much-needed attention. Dawn of DC may be all about letting DC’s existing stars shine, but Alan Scott has been shining since 1940, and it’s about time for him to shed his light over dark evil once again.
