Artist Ivan Reis reveals he no longer works for DC Comics

Longtime DC Comics artist Ivan Reis is stepping away from the company.

Longtime DC Comics artist Ivan Reis has revealed via his Instagram he will not be working with DC Comics anymore. In the post, which you can read below, Reis thanks DC Comics for the 20 years of getting to draw their superheroes, but it’s time “for a new adventure and new challenges.”

He hasn’t revealed what those new adventures could be, but one might guess it could have something to do with Ghost Machine, a new outfit led by Geoff Johns, with Jason Fabok, Peter Tomasi, Bryan Hitch, Francis Manapul, and other future artists joining in not yet revealed. More on the creator-owned and operated media company Ghost Machine here, which will be published by Image Comics.

You can read his post below.

“It’s been 20 years drawing the greatest Super Heroes on Earth. I had the opportunity to work with the best people in the market creating the best stories. Editors, writers, inkers, colorists, letterersa and more. Lots of names to remember and write . Larry, Paul, Joe, Oclair, Campos, Brian and many more. with Geoff I created the biggest comics I could like Sinestro war, Blackest Night, Brightest Day, Aguaman, Trinity War ,as an example, and DC has always gave me the best opportunities and conditions and I can’t thank them enough for that. THANK YOU DC and that means thank you to everyone I had the opportunity to work with. You can find my latest DC project TITANS Beast World now in the store and you can always check out my work in DC trades and collections. Now it’s time for a new adventure and new challenges.”

Ivan Reis DC Comics

Reis most recently drew Titans: Beast World, in which our reviewer said “he is a masterclass artist who is well known for his skill, and this issue is a perfect example of why.” His work on Blackest Night is some of the best in big-two comics.

Clearly one of the best comics in the business, especially for big superhero event comics, it’ll be interesting to see where he lands next.
