Beyond the exclusive art, there’s plenty to dig into. Let’s dive into another month of Sonic news, along with the exclusives mixed in, below!

Big Picture & Creative Direction

Ryuman asks: Will we see any future mini-series focusing on other characters in the Sonic cast?

Sonic Editorial: You know what, that is an excellent question. With the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 movie, we really need to give Amy a story of her own… And since you mentioned it, Sage was recently introduced in the comics, so maybe there are plans for a story of her own.

Are there pitches on our desk for these stories? Who can say!

Ethan asks: Will we get to see into Silver’s future, in the future?

Sonic Editorial: This is such a good question! Right now, we have no plans to explore Silver’s future, but we will be exploring the Silver of the present when he teams up with Blaze in Issues #89-91!

TK asks: Hey, Mr.IDWSonic editor, love you and the crew’s work on these comics. Can I ask what’s the process behind writing the characters and matching the portrayals to the games? We know the canon status of these comics, and there are some continuity/character errors on certain pages. How do you guys go about fixing them?

Sonic Editorial: We are very fortunate to have creative teams who are all huge fans of Sonic and know the games super well, so that definitely is a major advantage! We also greatly benefit from the support we get from Sega – they are always there to help us navigate characterization and continuity. Even with all this, though, we’re all only human (no genAI here), and despite all our best efforts, mistakes do slip through occasionally. The usual way to fix an error that was in the single issue is by correcting it for future printings, such as the OBVIOUS time when.

Sonic the Hedgehog

@_Charlie_Bunnu_ asks: Are there any plans to do anything with Black Doom in IDW? Or is that going to stay in the games?

Sonic Editorial: Y’all really want to put Sonic and his friends through so much trouble! We have had Dr. Eggman, the Zeti, Starline, Mimic, Clutch, and now a new mystery villain? And that’s still not enough?! Tsk tsk!

Hallie asks, “What’s the next arc about?”

Sonic Editorial: Well, you’ve probably gotten a taste of the arc by the point we’ve gotten to this question, but after Sonic and Belle help Sage try to save Metal Sonic and figure out who is behind all the weirdness that happened in that cave with the coffin, we’re headed to Angel Island! With all the Chaos Emeralds missing, it’s a fair guess to think something might similarly befall the Master Emerald, after all…

Titus asks, “Are there any plans for Lanolin the Sheep in the future?” She’s one of my favorites to be introduced in the comic!

Sonic Editorial: Yes! Lanolin is currently working hard with Jewel on the reconstruction of Emeraldville, so she’s a bit preoccupied! However, with the strange happenings around the Emeralds, Lanolin will make an appearance in the coming issues to help out some old friends!

Myranda asks, “Sonic cares a lot for everyone.” Do you think one day he and Shadow will be friendly with one another?

Sonic Editorial: I think this is their version of friendly!

Jara Williwaw asks: Would it be possible to see a “Blaze the Cat” series? She is a fascinating character with a whole world of her own to explore. An empire which she protects and manages, and I think it would be amazing to have a comic that focused on Blaze.

Sonic Editorial: We don’t have a Blaze series in the works, but if you’re interested in more Blaze (and her dear friend Silver), we have just the thing for you! We highly recommend checking out Sonic the Hedgehog #89-91, which focuses on their escapades in a haunted castle with a mysterious noble! You will love it!

Wes Weasley asks: Any chance for a Big the Cat 30th Anniversary comic?

Sonic Editorial: We’re working on the publishing plans for upcoming years now, and at the moment there is no plan for a Big the Cat 30th Anniversary comic. Not to fear though, we might hopefully have something for Big fans coming sooner than that…

Myranda asks: Does Sonic know how to play other instruments besides the guitar?

Sonic Editorial: Tuba honest, when it comes to instruments, I think he’s best at getting into treble. (Please laugh.)

Hallie asks, “When will issue 100 come out?”

Sonic Editorial: Right now, the big 100 is scheduled to release in the back half of 2027. We’ve got a lot planned for you all until then, so stay tuned!

Stay tuned, Sonic fans, as we have more of YOUR questions getting answered from our first call for questions in the coming months!
