Get ready to ring in the New Year with our Channel Surfing TV picks. A death turns a small English town upside down in Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale. A family’s dark past comes to light in The Brothers Sun. Finally, dive into the family life of the world’s greatest detective in Grimsburg.

A Modern Actual Witch Hunt

Sanctuary by V.V. James is a Sunday Times best selling novel. In the titular small town, the young local athletic star dies by an apparent suicide. Questions arise and suspicions turn towards his girlfriend Sarah, the daughter of the resident witch Harper. The mother of the deceased sets out on a quest for vengeance to gain justice for her son.

The series stars Elaine Cassidy, Hazel Doupe, Amy de Bhrún, Stephanie Levi-John, Valerie O’Connor, Kelly Campbell, and Stephen Lord.

Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale premieres Thursday, January 4, on AMC+ and Sundance Now.

A Family’s Underworld Ties

Charles Sun is a renowned killer in the Taiwanese triad. One day in The Brothers Sun, Charles’ father is shot by a mysterious assassin. He crosses the ocean and sets out for Los Angeles where his mother Eileen, and younger brother Bruce live thinking they may be the next targets.

However, Bruce has been living a regular life unaware of his family’s criminal ties. As dangerous factions try to fill the void left following the Sun patriarch’s attack, Charles, Eileen, and Bruce must reconcile, and in the process, learn the true meaning of their blood bonds.

Stream the entire first season of The Brothers Sun beginning Thursday, January 4, on Netflix.  

Bad Guys Beware

Marvin Flute has made a name for himself as an adept detective solving high profile crimes involving murder and burglary. Now, he finds himself returning to his hometown of Grimsburg trying to reconnect with an ex-wife he still loves and a son he’s neglected. That’s a tall task to accomplish considering trouble follows Flute wherever he goes and there will always be a case to solve.

John Hamm both stars and serves as an executive producer. Rounding out the cast of the animated series are Erinn Haye, Rachel Dratch, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Greg Chun.

The series premiere of Grimsburg airs Sunday, January 7, on Fox.
