ICv2 revealed its best-selling graphic novels of 2023 list yesterday, and it was a manga-heavy top ten. That is, except for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, which was the second highest-selling graphic novel of 2023. In fact, it’s the only non-manga in the top ten. That’s quite an achievement, as the list further proves manga is where it’s at in comics sold in America.
The number-one-selling graphic novel was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Vol. 1, with Chainsaw Man Vol. 1 at number three. Coincidence the top three graphic novels also had animated projects available to see in 2023? I think not! It’s also worth noting The Last Ronin came out in 2022, yet still made it in the top three!
It’s also the fact that The Last Ronin is fantastic. As AIPT’s reviewer put it, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin works for both the lifelong TMNT fans who miss the Mirage years, as well as the newbies who are interested in a TDKR-inspired Turtles narrative.”
