Helldivers 2 servers at capacity: Is there a workaround?

Is there a way to get around the ‘Servers at capacity’ error thousands of players are hit with?

Helldivers 2 has proven immensely successful since its launch on February 8th, 2024. The game, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has taken the gaming world by storm, breaking more than 400,000 concurrent players on Steam, with undoubtedly hundreds of thousands more on Sony’s own PlayStation 5 platform.

The game is so popular, in fact, that many players are frustratingly unable to log in to play, blocked by a “Servers at capacity” error message. Arrowhead Game Studios has responded to the frustration on X, saying “We are once more working without delay to improve the issue and we hope to have a fix in place as soon as possible.”

However, despite Arrowhead’s best efforts, thousands of players are sitting on the dreaded “Servers at capacity” message, unable to play. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no real workaround, and not even any way to know how close you are to getting into the game.

The issue is exacerbated by players recognizing the risk of getting stuck at “Servers at capacity”, and simply leaving their characters logged in even when they are not playing the game.

Helldivers 2 servers at capacity workaround

If you’re on PS5, there actually is a workaround that seems to sidestep the “servers at capacity” error. Reddit user dolphin_spit lays it out:

if you’re on ps5, close the game. press down to get to the activity cards. find the ones that say “quick play with friends” or just “quick play”. click on it and start activity.
it will bring you to a black screen. hit start or let it play out. eventually you’ll see a circle in the top right, then you’ll be brought onto your ship.
this somehow bypasses the login queue. has worked for me every time there have been server queues since the game launched.

If you’re playing on PC, unfortunately the only thing you can do is sit at the “Servers at capacity” screen and wait your turn – even if you can’t see when your turn will be up. Best of luck administering freedom, soldiers.
