We’ve got a musical, superheroes, and historical drama in this week’s installment of our Channel Surfing TV picks. The pop stars Girls5eva find a new streaming home. See what it’s like to be Invincible. Then, track down a presidential killer in Manhunt.
Another Chance at Making It Big
The Peacock comedy, Girls5eva, followed a former young pop group that grew up and moved past their musical careers. Years later, a hip hop sample places them back into the spotlight where they try to make a comeback. The series lasted for two seasons before being cancelled by the streaming service.
Lucky for us, Netflix picked up the show and the third season debuts this week. After recently completing a new album, the girls decide to tour to promote it. Expect more entertaining original songs and see if hitting the road is a new beginning for the group or just another shot at failure.
Stream the entire third season (along with the first two) of Girls5eva beginning Thursday, March 14, on Netflix.
Picking Up the Pieces
Some may found the more recent Marvel TV shows a bit disappointing. So, if you want to catch a compelling superhero story, look no further than Invincible. The animated series based off of the comic of the same name from Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley starts the back half of the second season.
There were many loose threads left unresolved when we last left off. Omni-Man is captured by the Viltrumites and Mark must make the choice of either finishing his father’s mission or risk the destruction of Earth. Meanwhile, Debbie copes with being abandoned by her husband, and Agent Donald makes an unsettling discovery about himself. Hopefully, we’ll receive answers regarding these plot lines and more.
The second part of Invincible season 2 starts Thursday, March 14, on Prime Video.
To Catch a Killer
The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was a significant moment in American history. The new miniseries Manhunt looks at the aftermath following the death of the president at Ford’s Theater.
The show covers the 12-day chase to bring John Wilke’s Booth to justice. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton spearheaded the operation at the same time he fought to carry out Lincoln’s plans for Reconstruction in his absence.
The first two episodes of Manhunt will release on Friday, March 16, on Apple TV+.
