Marvel Comics clearly has a hit on their hands with the red band or “rated r” Blood Hunt issues, and now they’re taking it further to red band homage covers. The first to be revealed is by Leinil Francis Yu, featuring a bloody Thor. Oh, wait, I think he’s lost his head?!
The new covers will evoke the imagery of classic horror comics, and as Marvel puts it: The new BLOODY HOMAGE VARIANT COVERS give readers a terrifying hint of the savagery that awaits readers in Marvel’s first-ever venture into RED BAND storytelling. This first revealed cover homages the EC comic, Crime Suspense Stories #22.

New York, NY— March 15, 2024 — BLOOD HUNT, the bloodiest event in Marvel Comics history, kicks off in May. Each issue of the main series, written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Pepe Larraz, will also be available as expanded and unexpurgated special RED BAND EDITIONS. Labeled with a Parental Advisory and polybagged to keep those weak of heart from experiencing its intensity, the RED BAND EDITIONS will contain extra pages of vampiric violence and more graphic art too explicit for the regular edition. In addition, the RED BAND EDITIONS will have its’ own special line of variant covers.
