BOOM! Studios has been acquired by Penguin Random House, as reported by Publishers Weekly. The news comes as a bit of a surprise since Penguin Random House has inked exclusive distribution deals with Marvel and Dark Horse in recent years. Can Penguin distribute their comics and publish their own? A wild concept not seen before.
ComicBook.com has also reported today is Filip Sablik’s last day as the President of Publishing and Marketing at BOOM! Studios.
The world of comics distribution has been wild in recent years, particularly shifting due to the pandemic. That includes DC Comics dropping Diamond and Lunar becoming a major player with multiple publishers. In addition, earlier today DSTLRY revealed they signed an exclusive distribution deal with Diamond.
How this might change BOOM! Studios remain to be seen, be it layoffs or different plans for their line of comics. Likely BOOM! Studios will clarify soon so stay tuned to AIPT as we get more information.
