This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks include an adaptation of an 80s adventure film, the next chapter of a fantasy animated series, and one of the biggest sports events in the world. Go treasure hunting throughout history in Time Bandits. Return to the magical land of Xadia in The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos. Then, get ready for all the drama that only the Summer Olympics can bring.

Stealing Through Time

Time Bandits is a beloved movie from the 80s co-written and directed by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame. The story involves a young history loving boy who becomes entangled with a motley band of dwarves who travel through space and time to steal riches.

It is now being updated into a television series created by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi. Lisa Kudrow, Kal-El Tuck, Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, and Rune Temte star.

The two episode premiere of Time Bandits is Wednesday, July 24, on Apple TV+.

Looking to the Stars

When we last left The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos, the Queen of Dragons, Zubeia, overcomes her bout of dark magic thanks to a stranger calling himself the Mushroom Mage. Elsewhere, Team Zym are able to secure Aaravos’ prison despite Claudia’s interference. But it’s not all good news since the Sunfire Elf, Janai, is betrayed by one of her general’s risking a war between her people and humans.

The new season entitled, Book 6: Stars could be related to Callum and Rayla’s journey to find the Celestial Elves. But also on the horizon, a conflict is brewing as the tagline states “The war against ‘The Cosmic Order’ begins.”

Stream the sixth season of The Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos beginning Friday, July 26, on Netflix.

Going for the Gold

Every four years (but in this case three because of COVID), the Summer Olympics takes place assembling the world’s greatest athletes to compete for their country in a wide variety of sports and events.

The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad take place in Paris, France and there’s no shortage of compelling storylines. Simone Biles returns to further solidify her claim to women’s gymnastic’s GOAT. Can she recapture her women’s all around glory and win the gold? How will new additions of breaking, kayak cross, and kiteboarding resonate with fans? These are only a few to follow.

Opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics 2024 takes place Friday, July 26, with the event running until August 11, on the NBC family of networks and streaming platform.
