It’s issue #12 of Daredevil, and this creative team has beat the one-year mark by getting 12 issues in under 12 months, as they launched this current volume on September 13th, 2023. Saladin Ahmed and Aaron Kuder have quite the hook with their run by having Matt Murdock face the Seven Deadly Sins. Within this issue, we continue the showdown between Murdock and a Greed-possessed Kingpin as they duke it out. The creative team doesn’t make it easy for Mudock, and that’s where the deepness of the issue hits. Let’s jump back into Introductory Rites with part 12.

Aaron Kuder and Jesus Aburtov are a dynamic duo when it comes to presenting the lethal legion of Kingpin and Greed. One of the best parts of this massive story arc is seeing the characters possessed by the Sins. Each artist has done an excellent job creating museum-worthy visuals. Kuder gives us a massive frame and a very confident Kingpin. Aburtov kills with his color choice, as the pages look on fire! Kingpin and Greed have had the most page time, and it can be a bit tedious, but this issue makes up for it.

A wonderful part of this issue was Saladin Ahmed’s script, which made Murdock face a huge flaw in himself. I almost think that Murdock might be under possession by one of the Sins himself, but after this issue, Greed would’ve made the best choice, as the callouts are perfect, yet Kingpin disproves that theory. I agreed with the Sin, which is super scary, so that is some superb writing by Ahmed. The script also doesn’t allow for a simple expelling of the evil with some of the tricks Murdock has used in past issues; when you see Murdock go for it and the action gets shut down, you’ll be in for some suspense on how this will work out. Ahmed doesn’t make it all doom or gloom either, as a heavenly visitor made for grade moment and one of my favorite scenes with that character ever.

Something to put into perspective with this arc is that it has as many issues as Crisis on Infinite Earths…wow. Reading these issues and the “Giant” tie-in has caused me to feel burnt out, almost pushing me towards trade waiting. Yet this issue was a perfect savior from that temptation as the creative team performed a miracle. I would like to see this arc wind down some, but if they can continue to deliver and not play the same tricks, then let’s go! Hopefully, they will go big; the next issue is Legacy #675.
Ahmed, Kuder, and Aburtov deliver a heavenly issue that rewards readers for the Sins of Murdock. The art lifts the characters to new levels, making for dynamic eye candy that you’ll keep checking out to make sure you didn’t miss anything. The script does a beautiful job of pitting the hero against himself and challenging him to accept his flaws. If you’ve been away from Daredevil, then this is the issue that can get you back and to be fearless again.
