‘Absolute Power: Task Force VII’ #7 is a fun romp with non-American heroes

Heroes outside of America take center stage in ‘Absolute Power: Task Force VII’ #7.

DC Comics’ Absolute Power event has much to love, including the excellent one-shot Absolute Power: Task Force VII series. This week’s seventh issue focuses on global heroes responding to Amanda Waller’s threat. The Amazos are wreaking havoc in America, but they are well aware that international heroes need to be taken down, too.

First and foremost, Fran Galan’s art in this issue is spectacular. It utilizes bright colors with an animated look and feel that suits the bevy of heroes you may have never heard of. Truth be told, the appearance of international heroes is one of the best parts, as they’re colorful, with unique powers, and plenty of cool looks. Galan had to draw a heck of a lot of underused heroes, and he nails their appearances.

The story is a fairly straightforward fight comic as international heroes rush to aid the Eurocorps. When they arrive, the Amazo is already taking them out fast since it has already gobbled up Martian Manhunters’ powers. Enter the Global Guardians, made up of Tasmanian Devil, Jack O’Lantern, Jet, and Freedom Beast. Writer Dan Watters offers handy text to detail each of their powers and names, knowing full well that we don’t know most of these heroes.

Soon, drama spikes between the heroes when they think they’ve won, and Watters explores some interpersonal drama. The fact is, Watters makes you want more of these international heroes by the end of this issue. They’re colorful with their own dramas to explore.

As usual for this series, there’s also a side story focusing on the heroes’ escape from Waller’s prison. This time, Steve Trevor leads the charge to get Frankeinstein’s monster out. However, this backup tale doesn’t add much, as it only confirms what we already know about Waller’s plans. It’s nice to see how well-connected this is with last week’s issue of Wonder Woman, but it doesn’t add a whole lot.

Absolute Power: Task Force VII #7 will make you want many more international superhero comics. Not only are there a ton you probably don’t know about, but they’re super cool-looking and have plenty of their own dramas to deal with.
