Say it ain’t so, Chip Zdarsky! It was revealed today via Zdarsky’s newsletter he’ll be leaving Batman with issue #157 (LEGACY #922). That issue isn’t out till February 5th, but it’s sad all the same. The news comes just days after it was revealed Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb will be taking over Batman with a Hush sequel titled Hush 2.
Zdarsky revealed he let DC Comics know he’ll be exiting the series back in April before C2E2. They asked him to stay on for one more story arc in October–which recently kicked off–but that would be it for the creator.
Zdarsky listed a few reasons for leaving, including Ben Abernathy’s exit from Batman to work on G.I. Joe at Skybound. It was also necessary because his workload was getting too large, and something had to be cut.
“I’m super proud of our final story, though scheduling issues forced it to go to biweekly, which meant Jorge sadly couldn’t draw it all,” Zdarsky wrote. “But then OTHER scheduling issues put it back to monthly, but what are you gonna do? Comics be comickin’. At some point, we’re all at the mercy of things like “the financial quarter” and “CEO MacGuffin has a plan.”
