Kahhori is the first original superhero created in the MCU, and now she’s getting a comic book one-shot. Introduced in Disney+ show What If…?, Kahhori is a Mohawk warrior who discovered the Sky World and never looked back. Not only did the Disney+ show introduce her, but it opened up a new realm and world to explore. That makes this comic important in the grand scheme of the Marvel multiverse.
As part of Marvel’s ongoing Marvel’s Voices line, this one-shot features an extended story via anthology chapters celebrating Indigenous heritage. It opens with an introduction by Kahhori co-creator Ryan Little, features an interview with the Kahhori voice actor Devery Jacobs, and features three chapters by different creative teams.
The opening introduction by Little may bring a tear to your eyes. Little is the co-creator of Kahhori and explains how the character came to be in the MCU. The creation has ties to Little’s college professor, Indigenous people, and a desire to get this character right. So much so that we learned about her creation, which involved getting the Mohawk language Kanien’kéha accurate and even showing the episode to Mohawk language immersion schools before it aired to the public; it’s quite obvious the creation of this character was handled with incredible care.
The interview with Jacobs continues the trend of making sure Kahhori was captured as perfectly as possible. It’s also interesting to see her insights on the character from a real-world perspective.
From there, the comic begins with an opening-framing story by Little and Todd Harris. We get to see Kahhori now fully in control of her powers in the Sky World. Right off the bat, we see she’s interacting with a dwarf, and her life is a bit more complicated. That’s especially true when Loki shows up sporting a new blue look and looking scarier than ever.
Arihhonni “Honni” David and David Cutler pick up the story from there with “New York Scenes,” set in the 616 universe. Kahhori is sent to the universe while fighting Loki, and lo and behold Daredevil and America are nearby to lend a hand. This is a good fight comic with a bit of humor thrown in, too.
Closing out this one-shot is “Midnight Scenes” by Kelly Lynne D’Angelo and Jim Terry. This tale further expands Kahhori’s interaction with familiar characters, this time the Midnight Mission. Given the spiritual nature of Moon Knight, it’s a logical crossover. Some lessons are also being traded as they continue to battle Loki. More action ensues, and it’s nice to see how D’Angelo and Terry wrap things up, making this entire adventure part of Kahhori stories to the kiddos.
Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds further opens up the title character’s perspective as she interacts with a number of Marvel characters. Kahhori’s one-shot isn’t just another comic—it’s a heartfelt celebration of Indigenous culture and a thrilling new chapter that firmly cements her place in the Marvel multiverse.
