Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 11/11/2024

his week’s Channel Surfing TV picks have plenty of suspense as well as science fiction.

This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks have plenty of suspense as well as science fiction. Watch a cat and mouse game between an agent and assassin in Day of the Jackal. An uprising is on the horizon in humanity’s last community during the new season of Silo. Finally, learn the origin story of the Bene Gesserit in Dune: Prophecy

Catching a Killer

There is something about the novel, Day of the Jackal, that makes Hollywood want to adapt it. There are already films that were released in 1973, and more recently in 1997. Now, there is also a television series revolving around Frederick Forsyth’s political thriller.

The story revolves around one of the best assassins in the world who carries high profile hits for big money. Following his latest job, the Jackal appears on the radar of a British Intelligence officer who leads a manhunt to capture him all over Europe. The series stars Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, and Úrsula Corberó.

The first five episodes of Day of the Jackal launch Thursday, November 14, on Peacock.

Life on the Outside

In the world of Silo, which is based off of a series of books from Hugh Howey, the planet’s surface is toxic and deadly forcing the remnants of humanity into underground communities with the hopes that one day the outside will be livable again.

When we last left the series, a young engineer named Juliette searches for answers surrounding a loved one’s death, and is soon shocked by what she uncovers. As a punishment, Juliette is forced to the surface for an expected death. Fortunately for her, she survives and soon learns what is out there. Season two will have the authorities deal with an uprising inspired by Juliette. Meanwhile, as seen in the trailer, she makes contact with a survivor outside her own silo.

Season two of Silo begins Friday, November 15, on Apple TV+.

Before Dune

The success of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films has sparked a brand new interest in this science fiction world. This renewed popularity has caused the franchise to make the leap once again to our television screens.

Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years prior to the movies. It revolves around two Harkonnen sisters who try to protect the future of humanity from external forces. They, along with likeminded women, would go on to form the influential sect known as the Bene Gesserit. The series is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

The series premiere of Dune: Prophecy airs Sunday, November 17, on HBO.
