Welcome to a special post-Thanksgiving edition of Fantastic Five! For those of you in the United States, let this recap of the best comics of the week be a palate cleanser after stuffing yourself with turkey and mashed potatoes yesterday. This week, DC continues to dominate, but Marvel still has the excellent Venom War up its sleeve. Let’s get to the books!
The best comics of the week: November 27, 2024
#5: Power Girl #15
With all of the good in it, Power Girl #15 does struggle with the awkwardness of certain side characters still not entirely fitting the overall tone of the series. However, that is made up for with the strong writing fleshing out Ejecta and Symbio’s relationship, and pushing our heroine Paige to the edge by extension.

#4: Superman #20
Superman #20 features what might be one of the biggest fights between Superman and Doomsday, tempered by emotional weight and hints of a foreboding future. It’s made even more ominous by the fact that Time-Trapper Doomsday says that something more terrifying than him is coming for Superman…and considering that Doomsday beat the Man of Steel to death, that sounds all kinds of scary.

#3: Absolute Wonder Woman #2
Ultimately, Absolute Wonder Woman #2 is not as perfect as the first installment, but manages to deliver another engaging and artistic issue as Thompson, Sherman, and Bellaire continue to produce their best. With the teaser for the third issue, readers will once again be waiting eagerly as we see more of Wonder Woman’s place in the Absolute Universe.

#1: Nightwing #120
“On With the Show” is everything I’ve wanted in a Nightwing story so far. Seeing Nightwing pushed into a corner is always fun, particularly when it’s one that he’s unfamiliar with. Gone are the days when villains were obviously trying to take over the city. This offers a new kind of challenge for Nightwing that takes the series into a different but captivating direction. Additionally, the issue also has its fair share of lighthearted moments to balance its intensity. Through all of this, Nightwing #120 is Watters, Soy, and Gandini at their very best.
