According to the New South Wales Police Force, a rare Charizard Pokémon card valued at $8,000 was stolen after a sale gone wrong. A man met a supposed “buyer” late at night in a parking lot. However, instead of profiting off the card, he was assaulted and robbed.
The New South Wales Police Force took to social media and asked for tips regarding the robber’s whereabouts in an oddly humorous post on X. They led with “Turns out Team Rocket’s not the only one causing trouble… Detectives are investigating after a rare Pokémon card – valued at over $8000 – was stolen during a trade.” The police continued to describe the vehicle the thief was in, a “red 2023 Ford Mustang with grey stripes” and concluded their announcement with “If you’ve got info, don’t just sit there like a Snorlax – contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Why Charizard Pokémon card is so valuable
The original holographic Charizard Pokémon card is incredibly rare and highly sought after. Aside from the limited number of this card, Charizard is the only Pokémon in the massive franchise’s original set that caused 100 damage. The stolen card was also PSA graded, significantly raising its value. While this incident may seem odd, it certainly isn’t the first time that collectors have physically fought over Pokémon cards. In the past, customers at Target, Walmart and Costco were all caught on camera battling each other for cards.

If you have any information regarding the robbery please contact the New Wales Police Department.
