Rockstar Games announced on its website and X today that it pushed back the highly-anticipated GTA 6’s release date to May 26, 2026. The upcoming installment of the hit franchise was originally scheduled for later this year. However, Rockstar explained that they needed more time to perfect it and make sure that its quality would measure up to the hype surrounding the game.
Rockstar was very apologetic in its post. The industry giant stated, “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.” Rockstar also promised fans that it will share updates about the game as soon as possible.
GTA 6 isn’t Rockstar Game’s first major delay
While fans are rightfully annoyed after already waiting 12 years for GTA 6’s arrival, Rockstar stands by its decision. The company has a habit of delaying huge releases because it admirably wants to deliver high-quality products to its loyal fans. Another popular that Rockstar pushed back in the past was Red Dead Redemption 2, so, the news of GTA 6’s setback is hardly surprising to long-time fans.
GTA 6 is now scheduled to be released on May 26, 2026, however, the date is subject to change.
