This week was the event every competitor on Top Chef looks forward to, but not everyone is fortunate enough to participate. The most recent episode saw the remaining contestants take on Restaurant Wars.
There was no quickfire since the elimination challenge was so big. While most restaurants have months of planning before opening, both Nonna Pipón and Phlora + Phauna only had 24 hours from concept to execution. The former was described as grandma chic while the latter was vegetable forward. Both teams had to stretch their budget since they only had $4500 to spend at Whole Foods and another $2300 to spend at a variety of specialty markets to feed 100 diners. All the stress and hard work would be worth it for the winning team since they would earn $40,000. If you’re doing that math, that’s $10,000 each member.
When it was all said and done, another Top Chef contestant left the reality competition and entered Last Chance Kitchen. There, they went head-to-head with the current champ to create an updated modern spin on a dish filled with nostalgia. To add another wrinkle, Tom Colicchio also wanted a sauce element.
