‘Top Chef’ season 22 Power Rankings: Week 9

The contestants receive a culinary Mission Impossible this week on Top Chef.

This week marked a new shift on Top Chef. From now on, the contestant’s performance in both the quickfire and elimination challenges would factor in who would leave the competition. The margin of error was even smaller.

Prince Edward Island, one of Canada’s provinces, is known for it’s seafood, especially the mussels. During the quickfire, the chefs had 20 minutes to make a dish featuring the shellfish. They were judged on their ability to properly cook the mussels and their creativity. The winner received $10,000.

With Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning arriving in theaters this month, Top Chef tied the film in with the elimination challenge. The competitors needed to make a dish that featured a stunt. However, if they performed their own impossible mission of participating in the CN Tower EdgeWalk and performing a forward and backward lean from the viewing platform, they could receive two advantages. Everyone did the walk around the tower, but a fear of heights prevented Massimo and Lana from doing the leans.

This week was also the season finale of Last Chance Kitchen. The two battling chefs needed to win the best of three challenges before earning their ticket back onto the main series. The first challenge had them select an eliminated contestant and instruct them to make a dish. The second was a blind tasting that proved their mastery of flavor and technique in one bite. In the third and final challenge, they had 20 minutes to cook a fully composed dish.

Below are our Week 9 Top Chef Power Rankings for season 22.
