Minecraft inspired NFL 2025 schedule release removed due to licensing and tasteless joke

Two NFL teams, the Chargers and the Colts, used Minecraft elements in their 2025 schedule release. Unfortunately, The Colts had to remove their post due to a licensing issue with Microsoft, Minecraft owner and one of the NFL’s biggest sponsors.

NFL teams drop schedule release videos in preparation for the upcoming season every year. Most of them lightheartedly poke fun at other teams in the spirit of friendly rivalry. However, this year, the Colts crossed a line. The video included a crude joke about Tyreek Hill and featured an “insensitive clip” of the Miami wide receiver.

The Colts apologize for Minecraft video

Shortly after the takedown of the video, the Colts spoke to ESPN. The team expressed its remorse, “We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.” Thankfully, according to Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, the wide receiver took no offense to the video. Rosenhaus even claimed that Hill found it funny and laughed it off.

Aside from the Colts’ poor judgment, the video also violated the NFL’s licensing terms with Microsoft. While the Chargers’ video credited Microsoft for its use of Minecraft images, the Colts’ video didn’t have any disclaimer on it. This has led to speculation that there is a chance that the Indianapolis team did not have Microsoft’s permission to use its IP.
