Top Chef had a change in scenery as the reality competition headed west to Calgary, Alberta. The six remaining chefs were now in the semifinals making them one step closer to winning the competition. Unfortunately, the journey would end for one them this week.
The contestants headed to Olympic Plaza where the quickfire challenge would be held. During Calgary Stampede, one of the world’s largest rodeos, traditional pancake breakfasts are served throughout the city. So, for the quickfire, they needed to create a pancake dish that could be eaten without utensils. Instead of serving only the judges, they had to make enough to feed an additional 50 diners. At least they had 45 minutes to prepare and cook. The winner took home $10,000. Top Chef Canada season one finalist Connie Desousa served as guest judge.
The elimination challenge continued with the Calgary Stampede theme. The event also served as a means to bring together the First Nation communities with the ranchers who hosted the rodeo. Therefore, the chefs created a dish that highlighted beef and berries, which are ingredients that commemorate that bond between the two groups. They decided amongst themselves to choose which cut of beef while drawing knives to select the type of berry. Chefs Denia Baltzer and Paul Rogalski served as guest judges.
After week 11, only five chefs remain. They need to survive one more week if they want to participate in the finals held in Milan, Italy. Here are the latest Power Rankings.
