Welcome back to another edition of Fantastic Five, our celebration of the best comics of the week! This week, DC continues to dominate with the top three spots, while Marvel and Image round out the top five. Let’s get to the books!
Best comics of the week: May 28, 2025
#5: The Power Fantasy #9
The Power Fantasy #9 earns its Eisner-nominated reputation with a tightly crafted, emotionally resonant installment that juggles multiple characters and timelines without losing sight of the larger philosophical questions at its core. It’s a visually stunning, narratively ambitious chapter that sets the stage for what promises to be a climactic reckoning.

#4: Magik #5
Magik #5 sees Illyana Rasputina confronting her trauma and reconciling with Darkchild in a healing and cathartic examination of coming to terms with and overcoming the painful parts of one’s past.
#3: Green Arrow #24
Okay so, let’s cut to the chase while we wrap things up: this is a perfect issue through and through. Condon delivers heartfelt scenes, intense ones that might make the reader laugh, and ones that will leave you aghast. These moments are all drawn with intense line work, and brilliant colors, and all of this comes together to deliver a meaningful story. And most importantly, the story comes to a close in a genuine way. There are thousands of stories like this, but they don’t get a happy ending, because life doesn’t always give happy endings to hurting communities. Sometimes, the acts of a few become the image of many. And while this story does acknowledge the reality of that, the issue still finds its success in supplying a satisfying conclusion to the story.

#2: Mr. Terrific: Year One #1
Mr. Terrific: Year One #1 delivers a powerful and grounded look at Michael Holt’s early days, blending grief, genius, and growing tension in a story that respects the character’s legacy while setting up something fresh for his origin. Al Letson’s script pairs beautifully with intense art from Valentine De Landro that highlights the emotional weight of Holt’s journey, and the hints of future tech and new threats make this a compelling first chapter for longtime fans and new readers alike to witness the rise of an excellent character in the DCU.

#1: Absolute Martian Manhunter #3
Absolute Martian Manhunter is the barn burner book in all of comics right now. Nowhere else is a character being so brilliantly reinvented, both narratively and visually. Nowhere else are readers being offered such an insightful look at the humanity of the world they live in. Every week that this book is published will be a week in which it’s the first thing I read.
