This week was the last week Top Chef spent in Canada. To commemorate the occasion, the competition headed to the great outdoors to showcase the country’s beautiful wilderness. It was quite a view to leave on before heading to Milan for the finals.
Instead of a quickfire, the remaining contestants were treated to a goodie bag filled with foraging gear. They headed out to Quarry Lake Park in Alberta where they were met by host Kristen Kish, Cree Knowledge Keeper Brenda Holder, and local chef Tracy Little. Both Holder and Little are expert foragers and guided the competitors through the various ingredient options out in the wild.
The elimination challenge involved creating a dish using the foraged ingredients they gathered that day. To help supplement their cooking, they had an additional $200 to shop at the grocery store and were gifted additional foraged ingredients from the experts. Also, since they were cooking outside, they could only use an open flame over a campfire. The winner would receive $10,000 and a guaranteed spot in the finals.
It was probably the most competitive elimination challenge on Top Chef this season with everyone cooking great dishes. Unfortunately, the journey ended for one more contestant with the added bitter taste of no Italy. Here are our Power Rankings after week 12.
