Dark Horse Comics has announced Synthetics Volume 1, a new four-issue miniseries launching this October from legendary Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski (Captain America) and artist Tony Parker (Mass Effect: Foundation), with colorist Carrie Strachan and letterer Steve Dutro. Blending sci-fi and dystopian drama, Synthetics explores a near-future Earth ravaged by ecological collapse and social unrest—where humanity’s only hope may lie with synthetic beings created to ensure survival.
Straczynski describes the series as a meditation on the core question of what it means to be human. As rage gangs rule the streets and society crumbles, the arrival of synthetic humans challenges moral boundaries and ignites existential fears across every level of society—from scientists and politicians to journalists and law enforcement. The series asks: can these new beings save us… and will we let them?
Artist Tony Parker called working on the book “a thing of beauty” and expressed his excitement for fans to experience the story.
Issue #1 of Synthetics Volume 1 hits comic shops on October 29, 2025, for $4.99. Visit Comic Shop Locator for more details and stores near you.
