Shortly after From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman concluded its debut season, it was announced that it would return for season two. Producer Ryo Hino gave some big updates on the new season during Anime Expo.
The anime title is a straightforward description of the series. It explores the journey of an unimpressive sword instructor from a Podunk town named Beryl, who is invited by a former pupil to train knights in the capital. He eventually works his way up the ranks to become an impressive warrior. The show proves that you can continue to grow and learn even when at middle age.
In a pre-recorded video from members of Yamatoworks, the studio behind the CGI effects of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman, explained their approach to the action scenes. Instead of using the CGI to make the scenes flashy, it is used more to capture and depict the nuances from sword fighting. They even observed kendo fighters to make it more authentic.
Hino shared that production for the second season has begun. He also dropped four big teases about what fans can expect. There will be a deepening bond between Beryl and Mewi including bigger dad vibes. As Beryl becomes more of a master swordsman, he must battle one of the strongest out there. In addition, his love life also becomes more complicated when a rival in love for the affections of Allucia appears. Finally, a popular character makes a comeback.
