The King of Comics has officially been immortalized on the streets where his legend began. On July 9, Marvel joined the Kirby family to unveil “Jack Kirby Way” and “Yancy Street” on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, just blocks from where Jack grew up on Essex Street. The tribute celebrates not only Kirby’s towering legacy but also his roots in New York City—the birthplace of both his life and many of Marvel’s greatest creations.
At the center of the event was a heartfelt nod to the Fantastic Four, a team Kirby co-created and a cornerstone of the Marvel Universe. For Marvel, this moment is a powerful reminder of Kirby’s visionary creativity and the city that helped shape it.
As Marvel put it:
“The Fantastic Four are the heart and soul of Marvel, so this commemoration is a truly special moment to honor what Jack accomplished here in the city — a meaningful reminder of his background, his unmatched imagination, and the role NYC plays in our history.”
The dedication was celebrated across Marvel’s social media platforms. Check out footage from the event on:
Whether you’re a lifelong Marvel fan or a newcomer, “Jack Kirby Way” is now a permanent reminder of the impact one man—and one city—can have on the world of imagination.

It’s the year of Fantastic Four thanks to the new movie, and even a prequel comic that came out this week!
