Dynamite Entertainment is bringing back Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt, this November in a brand-new action-packed series from writer Fred Van Lente (Incredible Hercules, Marvel Zombies) and artist Jonathan Lau (Space Ghost). The series offers a fresh, high-octane retelling of Cannon’s origins, blending mysticism, martial arts, and mind-bending power. It’s been approximately five years since the last series by Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard was released in collected format.
Peter Cannon, the last survivor of a secretive order of mind-awakened mystics, must face a deadly enemy: a rogue disciple who not only destroyed the order, including Cannon’s own parents, but now hunts him in the heart of New York’s elite circles. But this isn’t the same Peter Cannon they remember. Known as the Lightning Vessel of the Awakened, Cannon can bend time and cheat death with a single strike; he’s the living Thunderbolt.
Set against a modern world of cults, chaos, and conspiracy, the series dives into Cannon’s traumatic past with “The Awakened,” a compound blending New Age beliefs with brutal discipline, now long destroyed in a deadly fire. Along the way, Peter reconnects with ally Tabu, faces off against rival cults and mercenaries, and confronts his own limits to prove whether he’s truly mastered body and mind—or if death still has his number.
Additional details, including covers and variant art, will be revealed soon.
