SDCC 25 TMNT recap: IDW unveils major plans with Godzilla, new editor & more

New TMNT creative team, multiverse event, and Godzilla crossover, and more.

IDW Publishing is setting the stage for a bold new chapter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. Following the acclaimed run by Jason Aaron and Juan Ferreyra, the series will relaunch with issue #13 this December, introducing a brand-new creative team: Eisner-winning writer Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese, Superman Smashes the Klan) and fan-favorite artist Freddie E. Williams II (Batman/TMNT, Turtles of Grayskull). The duo promises a heartfelt, high-stakes storyline as the Turtles reunite in a city on edge—and face a deadly new assassin lurking in the shadows.

The relaunch is being guided by Group Editor Jake Thomas, formerly of Marvel, and will kick off with a collector-focused blind bag variant program featuring art from top names like Daniel Warren Johnson and Clayton Crain.

Ahead of the relaunch, fans can enjoy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Annual 2025 in October, written by Kenny Porter, which bridges the creative transition and launches a new line of festive variant covers, starting with a Halloween-themed edition by Jared Cullum.

And that’s not all—November brings TMNT: Battle Nexus, a five-week event featuring iconic characters from across the TMNT multiverse. The storyline includes favorites like Shredder, Metalhead, and Ninjara, with contributions from top TMNT creators including Tom Waltz, Sophie Campbell, and Erik Burnham.

Also stomping into stores in November is the epic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Godzilla crossover by Tim Seeley and Fero Pe. In this clash of legends, the Foot Clan has a new mission: stop the kaiju. But with Shredder and Krang in the mix, expect mutant mayhem of titanic proportions.
