Following up on their hit 2023 series Miss Truesdale and the Fall of Hyperborea, legendary Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and artist Jesse Lonergan (Man’s Best) are teaming up once again for the next chapter in the saga: Miss Truesdale and the Rise of Man. This four-issue miniseries—written by Mignola, with art and colors by Lonergan and letters by Clem Robins—will also feature main and variant covers by Lonergan.
“Since wrapping up the B.P.R.D. series, I’ve become increasingly interested in exploring the origins of the Hellboy Universe,” said Mignola. “I wouldn’t dream of telling Rise of Man without Jesse Lonergan’s incredible storytelling abilities. The story took me on a wild ride, and Jesse has made it even more surreal and stunning than I imagined. This is the deepest we’ve ever gone into the world’s foundations.”
Readers were first introduced to Miss Truesdale in Victorian England, where she uncovered a mystical link to the ancient warrior Anum Yassa. That journey flung her into a past life to confront a primordial evil. In Rise of Man, Anum Yassa now roams the forest, seeking clarity about her many lifetimes—only to find a shadowy force closing in, threatening the future of humanity.
“In Fall of Hyperborea, we explored the reincarnation link between a Victorian woman and her ancient gladiator self,” Lonergan explained. “Now, in Rise of Man, those two identities have fused—Miss Truesdale exists in the powerful body of Anum Yassa, traveling a strange new world and facing off against terrifying creatures. Her path leads to a dramatic confrontation that reveals core truths about the Hellboy Universe.”

The 22-page Miss Truesdale and the Rise of Man #1 is due out on Dec. 10, 2025 from Dark Horse.
