Silent Hill 2‘s composer, Akira Yamaoka, revealed what inspired the game’s soundtrack during an interview with IGN about the upcoming vinyl for the second installment of the massive horror franchise. According to Yamaoka, he took inspiration from the smells and temperatures in the popular horror game.
The composer said that he was determined to provide players with something they had never experienced before in the original Silent Hill 2. He explained, “I had set myself the mission of creating something that hadn’t existed in game sound or audio until then.”

Yamaoka’s return to Silent Hill 2
Yamaoka also expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Silent Hill over twenty years after its initial release. “Being able to release it again in this way, to bring it back before anyone anew, was something that made me happy.” He also stated that he was adamant about outdoing himself in Silent Hill 2’s vinyl. “Since it’s a remake, I felt a mission or determination that I had to go beyond the original and create new emotions and experiences. In a sense, it was about taking something I had made myself and pushing it even further.”
The Silent Hill 2 vinyl will be released on November 25, 2025.
