Bram Stoker’s iconic Dracula is getting a stunning new perspective in Dracula: Book III – The Count, a 120-page hardcover graphic novel by comics veterans Matt Wagner (Grendel, Mage) and Kelley Jones (Batman: Red Rain). This latest chapter plunges readers into a chilling reinterpretation of the original story—told entirely from Dracula’s own point of view. The book follows Book I, which launched in 2023 via Kickstarter. Read our interview with the creators on that opening salvo here.
Writer Wagner explains the creative leap:
“Anyone who’s familiar with Stoker’s original novel knows that once the action shifts to England, the title character is basically all-but unseen for the remainder of the narrative… A sinister, charismatic and scheming vampire lord set loose on the streets of London… we’re finally unveiling what he was doing during that terrifying period.”
— Matt Wagner
That means discovering Dracula’s true motives as he stalks the heart of a modern British Empire—“a vast realm on which, it was said, the sun never set.”
Artist Kelley Jones admits that capturing this unseen chapter wasn’t easy—but it was irresistible too:
“From our very first discussions of this project, this was the part I thought would be the trickiest to pull off… Every time I read one of his scripts, I find myself so fully engaged in how the story unfolds… I almost forget that I’m the one who gets to draw this incredible tale!”
— Kelley Jones
Released as an elegant European-sized hardcover, Dracula: Book III – The Count reunites the creative trio of Wagner, Jones, and colorist José Villarrubia, with Rob Leigh on lettering. The project is launching soon via Kickstarter, and you can follow the pre-launch page now to get notified when it goes live.
