The Winter Soldier. Black Widow. Namor. Clea. Carnage. Wolverine. Six of Marvel’s most dangerous loners have come together as the New Avengers—but after their first brutal mission, one of them will be revealed as a traitor. It’s a series I called a “thrilling, bloody remix of the classic Avengers formula that trades old-school heroics for dangerous alliances and brutal confrontations.”
Originally announced as New Thunderbolts, New Avengers by writer Sam Humphries and artist Ton Lima is one of the summer’s most buzzed-about launches, assembling an unpredictable roster in the spirit of Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch’s era-defining run. Their debut mission saw them hunting the Killuminati—twisted clones of the original Illuminati—and now, in the aftermath, the team is united…but barely. When they discover that one of their own created the Killuminati, alliances will shatter and trust will implode.
Launching this November in New Avengers #6, the second arc finds the team racing to stop Iron Apex from producing more Illuminati doubles. But with paranoia running high and betrayal in the air, survival is far from guaranteed. Stephen Segovia’s main cover teases the fallout, while Paco Medina’s variant offers the first clues to the traitor’s identity.
“I’ve fallen in love with this team,” Humphries says, “so naturally, I decided to rip them apart from the inside. Secrets plague both the New Avengers and the Killuminati, and only one person knows the full truth—whose side they’re on is the real question.”
Humphries also praised collaborator Ton Lima: “His artwork is sizzling right off the page.”
Check out the new covers and make sure New Avengers is on your pull list.
