This November, the Pride Lands roar to life in a whole new way as The Lion King arrives in comic book form from writer and artist Edwin Galmon.
Set during the golden days of the 1994 Disney classic, the series explores the bond between Mufasa and a young Simba — long before Scar’s rise to power. Readers will follow father and son as they navigate the vast Pride Lands, facing threats from both outside forces and tensions within their own pack. Along the way, Mufasa teaches Simba what it truly means to be king, blending moments of heartfelt mentorship with playful father-son adventures.
For Galmon, a longtime Disney fan and veteran cover artist for Dynamite’s Disney line (Lilo & Stitch, The Terminator), the project marks both his largest artistic endeavor and his debut as a comics writer.
“Working with The Lion King is a dream come true,” Galmon shared. “As a kid, my favorite parts of the movie were the scenes with Simba and Mufasa, because I related to the love and respect I had for my dad. That inspired me to focus on more bonding moments, goofy play, and guidance between them in this series.”
The new series promises a blend of iconic characters and fresh faces, offering a family-friendly adventure perfect for longtime fans and newcomers alike. To celebrate the launch, Dynamite has enlisted Meghan Hetrick, Jacob Edgar, and Giulia Lomurno for stunning variant covers.
As one of Disney’s most celebrated and award-winning films, The Lion King has captivated audiences for decades. Now, this comic book expansion builds on that legacy, bringing fans back to the Pride Lands for a timeless story of love, leadership, and legacy.
