Marvel has reopened the door to one of its most infamous alternate realities—X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 landed this week, launching a six-issue saga that revisits the classic Age of Apocalypse on its 30th anniversary. Written by original architect Jeph Loeb and brought to life by Simone Di Meo, the series sends Magneto’s ragtag band of war-weary X-Men crashing into the main Marvel Universe for a desperate battle to preserve their existence.
The debut issue immediately sold out, and Marvel has announced a Second Printing will arrive October 22. This reprint will spotlight fresh takes on variant covers by Leinil Francis Yu and Joe Madureira, the latter making a celebrated return to the franchise that helped define his career.
First unleashed in the 1990s, Age of Apocalypse reimagined the X-Men in a world where Charles Xavier was killed and Apocalypse reigned supreme. Though the main timeline was restored, that universe endured—and now its survivors are back, clashing with their counterparts in a story that will shape the destiny of both teams.
“So thrilled to hear that X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 is going to a Second Printing with a Leinil Francis Yu cover AND a Joe Madureira Cover!” Loeb said. “It’s 1995 all over again, only this time with the incredible artistry of Simone Di Meo making his X-Men debut. Grab this one now as it’s the start of an epic adventure with the All-New, All-Different X-Men of Apocalypse!”
