#5: Gotham Academy: First Year #1

‘Gotham Academy: First Year’ #1 review: Sympathy for the devil

All in all, Gotham Academy: First Year is off to a great start, serving as a solid entry point for new fans and a trip down memory lane for the folks who loved its original run. I’m so happy to see more of one of the brightest spots in all of Gotham.

#4: Rook: Exodus #7

‘Rook: Exodus’ #7 returns with new characters, a new story, and a new drive

Rook: Exodus #7 sees the return of arguably Ghost Machine’s standout title, offering both a new story arc and a great jumping on point alongside a creative team at the peak of their potential. With a new set of stakes and a new set of wardens – including the frightening Arachnid, who shows up in the final pages – Johns and Fabok are aiming to take this title to the next level.

#3: Starship Godzilla #1

‘Starship Godzilla’ #1 is a top-tier fast paced thrill ride

Starship Godzilla #1 is more than a killer debut, but proof that the Kai-Sei era is firing on all cylinders, blending anime-style flair, Godzilla-scale spectacle, and razor-sharp pacing into something truly unforgettable. Starship Godzilla #1 blends the swagger of anime classics, the awe of kaiju spectacle, and the precision of razor-sharp storytelling into one of the most exciting new series of the year. Every panel crackles with energy, character, and inventiveness, proving the Kai-Sei era is delivering comics at the top of their game.

#2: Batman #2

‘Batman’ #2 reunites the Dynamic Duo

Batman #2 continues to be another strong entry by Fraction, Jiménez, and the entire team involved. Fraction has once again delivered an issue with a fun script that makes for an exciting story that’s truly hard to put down. The artwork by Jiménez and Morey is nothing short of spectacular, and turns Fraction’s script into something I desperately want made into an animated short film. It’s worth noting that Clayton Cowles’ lettering helps the story to feel more intense and helps make more intense moments really pop. This is another fantastic issue that I have nothing to complain about except that I have to wait another month after that shocking cliffhanger to find out what will happen next!

#1: Ultimate X-Men #20

‘Ultimate X-Men #20’ enters a state of emergency

Ultimate X-Men #20 is a fantastic issue that advances the story at play while setting up future encounters for our favorite cast of failing high schoolers. To give Momoko props, this is one of the stronger landmark issues I’ve read in a while; I can’t wait to see what she has in store.
