Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck collide in first ever disney comics crossover event

The story begins when Demona harnesses a magical mirror to enlist Morgana Macawber in her plot for mass destruction.

Dynamite Entertainment has unveiled a Disney Afternoon dream crossover: Gargoyles / Darkwing Duck, arriving this January with a powerhouse creative team.

“I am the Terror That Flaps in the Night!”
“We are the Defenders of the Night!”
“I am Darkwing Duck!”
“We are Gargoyles!”

Two of the most iconic shows of the 1990s are finally colliding in comics. Both series captivated fans with superhero-inspired storytelling, sprawling lore, and unforgettable characters. Now, the creators who shaped both mythologies are joining forces for a crossover event decades in the making. This crossover comes on the heels of a FF/Gargoyles crossover, with the first of two one-shots coming out on October 15th.

The story begins when Demona harnesses a magical mirror to enlist Morgana Macawber in her plot for mass destruction. To stop her, Darkwing Duck and Launchpad McQuack soar into Manhattan aboard the Thunderquack — only to encounter Goliath and Elisa. Expect a classic hero-versus-hero clash before the real threats force the two worlds together.

Behind the series is an all-star team. Greg Weisman, the revered writer and producer behind Gargoyles, has been continuing his magnum opus at Dynamite since 2022, building directly on the stories where the animated series left off. Now, he’s expanding that tapestry to include all-new relationships. “When I started in development at Walt Disney Television Animation, the first show I ever worked on was Darkwing Duck, learning the gig under Tad,” said Weisman. “So nothing seems more appropriate than for Tad and I to team up to bring fans of both properties to this crossover event!”

He’s joined by Tad Stones, the legendary creator of Darkwing Duck himself. With nearly three decades under Disney, Stones was instrumental in shaping shows like Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Aladdin, and Hercules. Now, for the first time in 15 years, he’s scripting Drake Mallard again. “Greg had no problem entering DW’s world since he was part of the show’s development from the start,” Stones said. “We traded notes and I even sketched out visual gags when words failed me. Working with teams of creative artists and writers has always been the best part of my career, and this crossover is a new highlight.”

Rounding out the team is Disney comics veteran Ciro Cangialosi on art, with lettering by Fabio Amelia. Covers will be a showcase in themselves, featuring Tad Stones, Ciro Cangialosi, Ivan Bigarella (DuckTales), Clayton Henry, and Declan Shalvey.

With Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck finally sharing the same stage, this crossover is set to be a landmark moment for Disney comics fans both old and new.
