Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Scott Dunbier’s Act 4 Publishing, have unveiled a first look at Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition — a stunning oversized collection showcasing Mignola’s original artwork as it appeared on the drawing board. The edition arrives March 25, 2026.
Mignola, best known as the visionary creator of Hellboy and one of comics’ most influential artists, built his reputation on acclaimed work for Batman, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine before crafting his signature demonic hero. Over 30 years later, Hellboy remains a defining force in modern comics.
“I’ve been fortunate to know and occasionally work with Mike Mignola for decades,” said Scott Dunbier. “His command of light, shadow, and storytelling remains unmatched. If there were ever a printed ‘Ted Talk,’ this book would be it.”
Spanning over 180 pages, the Artist’s Edition collects the final five issues of Hellboy in Hell (#6–10), along with a selection of covers and rare illustrations presented in their raw, unfiltered form. The volume also includes an introduction by Hellboy logo designer Kevin Nowlan and an afterword by veteran artist Steve Purcell, both offering personal reflections on Mignola’s artistic legacy.
Unlike traditional collected editions, an Artist’s Edition reproduces original comic art in its true size and detail, with full-color scans that reveal every nuance — from brush textures and ink gradients to blue pencil lines and whiteout marks — giving readers an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of the creative process.
The book joins a growing line of prestige Artist’s Editions from Act 4 Publishing and Skybound, including forthcoming releases like Jim Aparo’s DC Classics, Steve Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man, Darwyn Cooke’s The Complete Spirit, George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans, and Wally Wood’s EC Stories – Expanded Edition. Future volumes will feature works from J. Scott Campbell, Dave Stevens, Jason Pearson, and Paul Smith, with release details to come.
