Tarzan swings back into comics, and he’s older, wiser, and facing pirates who want immortality

Alien Books is expanding its growing slate of licensed comics, announcing that Tarzan will headline a brand-new line of series and specials launching in 2026. Following a strong year of crowdfunding successes like Zorro Remastered and Sci-Fi Worlds of Juan Giménez, the publisher is teaming with Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. to bring the legendary jungle hero back to the page with all-new stories for the direct market, distributed through Alien’s partnership with IDW Publishing.

The first project out of the gate is TARZAN BEYOND, written by Steve Orlando and illustrated by Renato Guedes, with covers from artists including Dustin Nguyen, Noobovich, Federico Mele, and Juan José Ryp. The series is set in a brand-new alternate universe where Tarzan and Jane are older and more experienced, having lived through decades of adventure—yet remain physically youthful thanks to the mystical Waters of Kavuru. Now using their knowledge and resources to defend the planet’s natural world, their hard-won peace is shattered when Blackbeard the Pirate invades Tarzan’s homeland in a ruthless quest for immortality.

Alien Books Editor-in-Chief Matias Timarchi said the goal is to respect Tarzan’s rich publishing legacy while pushing the character into bold new territory with top-tier creative talent. Orlando echoed that passion, calling Tarzan a lifelong favorite and describing TARZAN BEYOND as a dream project years in the making—especially alongside Guedes, whom he praised as a bucket-list collaborator. Jim Sullos, President of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., added that the new direction honors classic canon while reintroducing the Lord of the Jungle to a new generation of readers.

Additional details on TARZAN BEYOND and future plans—including crossover one-shots—will be revealed in the months ahead, as Alien Books continues to build out its growing catalog of iconic properties.
