Ghost Machine opens the vault with a massive official guide to its growing universe in April 2026

‘Ghost Machine: The Official Guidebook’ #1 arrives in comic shops on April 1.

Ghost Machine is about to pull back the curtain on its growing universe in a big way. This April, Image Comics will release Ghost Machine: The Official Guidebook, a five-issue miniseries that digs deep into the characters, mysteries, and future storylines of Geoff Johns and company’s interconnected worlds. Featuring contributions from Johns, Jason Fabok, Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, Ivan Reis, Peter J. Tomasi, Brad Anderson, and more, the series promises to answer some of the biggest questions fans have been asking—while planting the seeds for what’s coming next.

Across its five issues, The Official Guidebook will spotlight more than 120 characters from Ghost Machine’s four shared universes. That includes the world of The Unnamed, home to Geiger, Redcoat, First Ghost, and Junkyard Joe; the sweeping sci-fi saga of Rook: Exodus; the nightmare dimension of Hyde Street and its terrifying Residents; and The Unbelievables, where extraordinary figures like The Rocketfellers, Hornsby & Halo, and the upcoming The Trillion Dollar Kid hide in plain sight. Along the way, the series will tease future storylines and major events that will shape the next phase of Ghost Machine.

According to Ghost Machine Editor-in-Chief Brian Cunningham, the project is inspired by the classic character encyclopedias that once defined superhero fandom. “I was always a huge fan of these entertaining encyclopedic comics,” Cunningham said. “Whenever I wanted to know something about a character, I knew where to go. I also loved learning about characters I had never seen before, and then wanting to track down those comics with them so I could read those stories. I’m hoping fans will do the same with our Guidebook.”

Each issue of the miniseries will zero in on a different corner of the Ghost Machine mythos. Issues #1–2 explore The Unnamed Universe, spotlighting characters like Geiger, Redcoat, and Junkyard Joe. Issue #3 turns to The Unbelievables, introducing new heroes and oddities alongside familiar faces like The Rocketfellers and Hornsby & Halo. Issue #4 dives into the sci-fi epic of Rook: Exodus, while the final chapter, Issue #5, ventures into the horror-filled streets of Hyde Street to profile its eerie Residents.

Visually, Ghost Machine: The Official Guidebook also pays tribute to the legendary reference books that inspired it. Each issue will feature three covers: a main cover by Gary Frank and Brad Anderson showcasing the issue’s featured cast, a Bryan Hitch and Brad Anderson variant that nods to The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and Ivan Reis, Danny Miki, and Brad Anderson variant inspired by Who’s Who in the DC Universe.
