Marvel Comics is putting Jubilee front and center this spring with a special new story celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Arriving April 29, JUBILEE: DEADLY REUNION #1 is a Marvel’s Voices one-shot that sends the fan-favorite X-Man on a deeply personal mission, written by Eisner Award winner Gene Luen Yang (Shang-Chi) and illustrated by rising star Michael YG (Iron Fist).
Currently appearing in Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone, Dave Marquez, and Luciano Vecchio, Jubilee now steps into the spotlight for a solo adventure that begins when a long-lost cousin suddenly shows up at the X-Men’s door. With mutant powers of his own and a mysterious agenda, his arrival forces Jubilee to confront her family history—and her connection to her Chinese heritage—in ways she never expected.
In “Jubilee’s X-cellent Adventure,” Jubilation Lee once again proves she’ll risk everything for the people she loves. When the cousin she never knew needs help, Jubilee sets out to find him—but saving family turns out to be far more complicated than she imagined. As secrets come to light and dangerous new powers emerge, Jubilee embarks on an emotional journey filled with heart, heartbreak, and explosive action.
“I’ve been a big fan of Jubilee since high school, when I was reading the Chris Claremont and Jim Lee X-Men run,” Yang shared. “She just felt like someone I would’ve been friends with at school, except she’s an X-Man. She’s also an American-born Chinese like me, so I’ve always wanted to tell a story about her uneasy relationship with her roots. I’m thrilled to finally get the chance.”
Artist Michael YG echoed the excitement of reuniting with Yang on the project. “I’m greatly honored to collaborate with Gene Luen Yang once again,” he said. “This project is truly a celebratory highlight for me, just like a jubilee itself!”
The one-shot is part of Marvel’s ongoing Marvel’s Voices initiative, which spotlights diverse characters and creators throughout the year, celebrating the many backgrounds, experiences, and identities that shape the Marvel Universe.
