Exclusive announcement: ‘Young Hellboy’ takes to the skies in a brand-new pulp adventure

With classic pulp energy, a beloved creative team, and the return of one of Young Hellboy’s most exciting allies, ‘Thrilling Sky Adventures’ is shaping up to be a must-read for Hellboy fans old and new.

Mike Mignola is heading back to Hellboy’s younger years with a brand-new miniseries, and AIPT can exclusively announce Young Hellboy: Thrilling Sky Adventures, a four-issue romp that leans hard into pulp thrills, high-flying heroics, and classic Mignola-style fun.

The series reunites Mignola with longtime collaborator Thomas E. Sniegoski, alongside artist Craig Rousseau, colorist Chris O’Halloran, and letterer Clem Robins. Together, the team delivers a new chapter from Hellboy’s youth—this time spotlighting fan-favorite pulp hero Scarlett Santiago, also known as the Sky Devil.

Fans first met Scarlett Santiago in Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land (2021), where she joined Young Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm on a perilous island filled with monsters and vampires. Now, Thrilling Sky Adventures flips the script, placing Scarlett at the center of her own story—with Young Hellboy proudly along for the ride as her biggest fan.

In this comic-within-a-comic-style adventure, Scarlett’s reputation has finally caught up with her. After vanquishing one too many villains, she’s forced out of hiding and into an uneasy alliance with a mysterious feline figure known as The Ghost Leopard. Together, the unlikely duo faces off against new enemies in a pulpy saga packed with danger, monsters, and airborne action—exactly the kind of story that would thrill Hellboy himself.

“Since wrapping up Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land, I’d been thinking about Scarlett Santiago, the Sky Devil, and how much we still didn’t know about her past adventures,” Sniegoski explained. “I was hoping that there would be a way to tell some of Sky Devil’s earlier exploits, and with Thrilling Sky Adventures, we’re getting to do just that… The series is coming out great, and I can’t wait for folks to be immersed in its pulpy goodness!”

Rousseau echoed that enthusiasm, adding, “Having the opportunity to work on more Young Hellboy is an absolute treat. It’s fun working with some of my all-time favorite creative partners to expand on the story of Scarlett Santiago, Sky Devil, and introduce The Ghost Leopard. Every script gets bigger and crazier… and getting me to draw gangsters, biplanes, wild animals, crazy monsters, and so much more.”
