There are two types of Wolverine stories: The loner on the move, or the protector of those who can’t defend themselves. The latter story is taking place in Wolveirne #15, as he’s joined up with Silver Sable to help the New Morlocks stay alive and not be captured. Dead set on training them in the Canadian wilderness, some familiar threats pop up to push Wolverine to the brink.
Wolverine #15 opens with Logan in the middle of a training operation with Chowdown, a mutant of the New Morlocks. They’re up against Department H, or at least the New Morlocks and Silver Sable pretending to be them. This opening gives the issue ample action, mutant powers on display, and a little flirting between Logan and Silver Sable. A good start for an action comic with Wolverine.
After a brief reprieve from action, and writer Saladin Ahmed laying the Silver Sable and Wolverine romance on thick, the story doesn’t miss a beat as it sends Department H after the New Morlocks. Not only that, Alpha Flight is thrown in for good measure, making this a bona fide packed issue with all sorts of mutants and superpowered people.

Wicked skin powers, dude.

An action comic through and through, Ahmed gets plenty of little character nuances into the book to flavor the fights. There are also some impressive moves by Vindicator worth a look.
Outside of all that, there’s a one-page cutaway to the start of a new story that seems to want to prove Wolverine really is the “best there is at what he does.” A hiccup of a scene, but it’s nice to see it seeded here.
Mike Henderson is the kind of artist you need to look really close at, as storytelling, style, and drama are found in the finer details. A bona fide showstopper of a panel has Wolverine flying out of the trees at an Alpha Flight member, or in another being pounded into the ground by Vindicator like he’s an asteroid. There’s plenty of dynamic stuff to be had in this book. The stocky, unstoppable version of Wolverine is something Henderson is great at.
Wolverine #15 leans hard into Logan’s role as protector, pairing intense action with a clear focus on the New Morlocks and their fight to survive. Saladin Ahmed keeps the pace brisk while layering in relationship beats between Wolverine and Silver Sable and adding personality to the chaos. Mike Henderson’s artwork anchors the issue with powerful visual storytelling and striking fight choreography. The issue is entertaining and energetic, even if a few side elements feel loosely attached rather than fully integrated.
