Last year, Marvel heroes and villains were featured across 28 variant covers illustrated by the renowned J. Scott Campbell. This June, Marvel Comics will showcase that artwork in Just Spectacular Collection #1, a special one-shot that celebrates one of the industry’s most recognizable cover artists.
Along with a gallery presenting the full set of covers, the issue includes a behind-the-scenes look at Campbell’s creative process.
The artwork spotlights a wide range of Marvel characters, including Black Cat, Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain America, Carnage, Cyclops, Daredevil, Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Ghost-Spider, Hulk, Human Torch, Iron Man, Magik, Mary Jane Watson, Nova, Psylocke, Rogue, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Storm, Thanos, Thor, Venom, and two different versions of Wolverine. Each character appears in a bold pose that reflects Campbell’s signature style.
The issue also includes extra material featuring Campbell’s original pencils and inks, along with commentary about his career at Marvel and how he assembled this large lineup of characters into a single celebratory project.
“Having been a lifelong Marvel fan since childhood, and a contributing artist for the past 25 years, it was an absolute honor and thrill to create the Just Spectacular Collection!” Campbell shared. “I’ve always wanted to draw a massive grouping of my all-time favorite Marvel characters — just like so many of my artistic heroes have done before me — and I wasn’t about to let this opportunity pass me by. To now have a one-shot comic celebrating my take on these legendary characters in such detail is more than I ever could’ve imagined.”
Just Spectacular Collection #1 arrives at comic shops this June. Fans can also expect additional announcements about upcoming Marvel variant covers in the months ahead.
