Warner Bros. Games, TT Games, DC, and The LEGO Group have announced a new comic tie-in, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, a standalone story inspired by the upcoming video game. The issue will be released on May 2 as part of Free Comic Book Day.
Titled The LEGO Batman Returns, the story follows Batman as he comes back to Gotham City after some time away and crosses paths with several familiar DC characters. The comic celebrates the character’s long history with nods to past films, TV series, and comics, all mixed with LEGO’s signature comedic tone.
The release also lines up with the anniversary of Batman’s debut in Detective Comics #27 on March 30, 1939. As a tribute, the opening panel recreates the iconic image of Batman swinging over Gotham’s skyline, echoing that classic cover alongside other references to DC lore throughout the story.
Fans can grab a free physical copy at participating comic shops on May 2 while supplies last, and it will also be available digitally that same day on the DC Universe Infinite app.
The comic is written by Ivan Cohen, with art by Paul Lee.

For those unfamiliar, Free Comic Book Day is a yearly event held on the first Saturday in May, when comic shops worldwide offer free issues from a variety of publishers.
