Dark Horse Books is taking readers back to Marvel’s earliest days with Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters, a massive collection that explores the creatures that helped shape the Marvel Age of Comics. Edited by comics historians John Lind and Chris Ryall, the 416-page volume gathers stories featuring iconic monsters like Fin Fang Foom, Groot, Monsteroso, Xemnu, and many more.
The collection highlights work from legendary creators including Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber, and Steve Ditko, pulling from classic anthology titles such as Tales to Astonish, Journey into Mystery, Strange Tales, and Tales of Suspense. It also includes more modern monster stories from creators like Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, John Byrne, Gil Kane, Eric Powell, Tradd Moore, and Arthur Adams.
Alongside the comics, the book features essays from historians and original artwork by Jack Kirby, offering insight into how these larger-than-life creatures influenced generations of storytelling and continue to inspire creators today.
The oversized hardcover edition includes a wraparound cover beneath a die-cut belly band designed by Ian Chalgren, making it a striking addition for collectors and fans alike.
“These monster comics predate the creation of the Marvel Universe,” said co-editor Chris Ryall, “but in so many ways, these stories by Lee, Kirby, and Ditko helped establish the blueprint of larger-than-life characters brought to stunning visual life by three of the best creators to ever do it.”
“We’re excited to give the deluxe collection treatment to these classic Marvel ’50s-era monsters—showcasing an impact and influence that still resonate across the kaiju comics of today,” said co-editor John Lind.
Marvel’s Mightiest Monsters arrives October 13, 2026, in a deluxe hardcover format priced at $75.00. Preorders are available now through bookstores, comic shops, and online retailers.
